“So, a man walks into a bar…” spoke the stranger to the man beside him.
That was his queue, he had been waiting at the back of the tavern for a few hours for this stranger to arrive, he had been tipped off that a mole from the Order would be visiting here and had information that he would be interested in but when he arrived he quickly dispatched a guard that now lay limp on the table beside him but no-one seemed to notice.
The man that had begun to tell the joke now swiftly left the tavern after making some excuse to the man beside him and a few of the armed guards twitched nervously as the mole was now exposed.
The tavern was quiet and there was only the guards, himself and the mole, the bar-man had now left his position after the first man left and now the entrance was locked from the outside, so there was no escape.
Now the guards were suspicious that something was going to happen to the man that they had been paid to protect but little did they realise that he had paid off the bar-man so that there wouldn’t be any witnesses.
Everything was in place and deadly quiet as no-on dared move or speak but the man stood from his table as it was now time to strike but he would leave the mole till later.
The guards soon noticed this and had begun to move towards him with their swords drawn.
He too drew his own sword but he knew that he was much quicker and lighter on his feet than they were.
He analysed the guards carefully as they charged at him one by one, he elegantly parried their swords to fend them of and in turn quickly dispatched them with a single clean slice to the stomach.
The mole had managed to crawl under one of the tables to shield himself from the onslaught but blood from his guards that now lay on the floor spattered his face a little, as the man strode over to him, the mole squealed in fear as he kicked the table out of the way and grabbed the mole by the hair and forced him over to the bar where he slammed his face into it.
“Where is he?” the man asked calmly.
When the mole didn’t answer, he slammed his face once more into the bar and by now his features were covered in blood.
“Where is he?” the man asked again.
“I… don’t know,” the mole replied but his face once more hit the bar.
“I won’t ask you again, now tell me where he is,” the man asked slowly losing his patience.
“I don’t know, I swear, all I know is that he is meant to arrive in a few days’ time but that is all I know, please have mercy,” the mole answered with fear coursing through his voice.
The man seemed to consider these words carefully before he looked at the mole and thought about how pathetic the Order must be to let a mole into their ranks, he thought that he could let him live and serve his cause but he couldn’t take that risk as the mole had seen his face and he knew what must be done.
With a click, he extended his hidden blade from his wrist and slid it into the man’s beating heart and whispered the words “Rest in peace,” before the mole slumped lifelessly onto the bar.
Stepping over the bodies, the man made his way towards the entrance to the tavern and hoped that the bar-man wouldn’t mind the mess but before he stepped into the daylight, he pulled up his cowl hood from his assassin’s robes that lay hidden underneath the civilian clothing he wore and knocked on the door twice. A few clicks later and the entrance was open and he stepped outside and vanished in the crowd.
